Get a taste of authentic Savoyard life in this homely mountain retreat
Chalet Etale is the perfect place to immerse yourself in Savoyard life. This traditional Alpine property has been sympathetically restored, with furniture and finishing touches chosen carefully to reflect its location. Sleeping 10, it can also be rented together with Chalet Tournette, on the floor above, to accommodate up to 20, although both properties are self-contained, have their own parking, and are sound insulated. The chalet is just a short walk from Manigod village, where you can pick up fresh bread from the boulangerie or enjoy a traditional meal at Val Sulens restaurant, and is perfectly placed to enjoy all the activities the La Clusaz area has to offer.
There’s a warm welcome waiting for you at the traditional Chalet Etale
You’ll appreciate the warmth of Chalet Etale when you return to it after an energetic day in the mountains. The door opens straight in to the fabulous farmhouse kitchen, with a range-style double oven and a huge pine table, where everybody can get together for a fondue or a raclette and discuss the highlights of the day. In good weather, there’s a large covered terrace with a big dining table, so you can all eat al fresco. After dinner, retire to the cosy living room, with its woodburning stove, to continue the conversation, or the separate TV room - there’s a place for everyone. On a clear night, you’ll love to sit out on the large south-facing balcony and watch for shooting stars, perhaps before heading downstairs for a sauna to ease aching limbs. Chalet Etale sleeps 10, in four comfortable bedrooms.
Don’t waste time getting to the slopes from this perfectly-placed chalet
Chalet Etale is just a few minutes’ drive from the Croix Fry ski station, so you’ll be able to make the most of every minute on the slopes. Parking is free, but if you don’t want to take the car, the ski bus stops just 100m from your door. From Croix Fry, your Aravis ski pass covers 220km of slopes and 95 lifts, from La Clusaz to Le Grand Bornand. Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails on the nearby Beauregard plateau, and non-skiers are not forgotten, with an ice skating rink and cinema in La Clusaz, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and horse-drawn sleigh rides. For the ultimate relaxation, let your cares float away at the heated indoor/outdoor pool at La Clusaz, as the snow falls gently around you!
Explore the great outdoors from your mountain base in the Manigod valley
Just as in winter, the summer fun centres around Chalet Etale’s stunning Alpine location. Explore the mountains on foot, either from the door, or take the ski lift to higher altitudes and come back down at your own pace. You can take your bike too - pick up a route of graded mountain bike trails at the tourist office in La Clusaz. Gentler walking and glorious views can be found on the Beauregard plateau - take a picnic and plenty of water! Adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, via-ferrata or white-water rafting - just some of the activities on offer within a few miles of Manigod. Adventure parks at Le Grand Bornand and Thônes provide tree-top fun for all ages.
Explore mountain villages and lakeside town less than an hour from Geneva
You’ll find it hard to believe you’re less than an hour from Geneva airport when you stay at Chalet Etale, just a few minutes walk from the picturesque village of Manigod. You can pick up basic provisions here, and there are more shops and restaurants in La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand and Thônes, where the tourist offices organise regular events for residents and visitors. The towns also host weekly markets, where you can pick up fresh local produce. A day out to the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy is a must. Explore the shops and museums in the morning, lunch at a lakeside restaurant, and you’ve got the rest of the day to swim in the crystal-clear waters, hire a boat or try some of the water sports on offer.
